Dance of Identity – Can you support?

Dance of Identity follows the life of Sophie, a transgender woman from Yorkshire, and her partner, Sandi. Filmed over a transformative six-year period, the movie explores Sophie’s quest for a “normal” family life and her determination to perform female ballet roles—all while navigating the physical and emotional journey toward gender-affirming surgery.
However, Sophie’s personal peace is under threat. As she seeks the acceptance she has yearned for since childhood, she finds herself caught in the crossfire of a tightening political landscape and a volatile national debate over gender rights.
While mainstream media often reduces transgender lives to soundbites, this film offers a rare, deep-dive perspective. It captures the raw triumphs and the mounting anxieties of a woman fighting to protect the legal protections won by those before her.
“This beautifully shot film offers a profound look at the reality of being trans in the UK today. It is as hard-hitting and truthful as it is poignant and funny.” — Katie Neeves, Founder of Cool2BTrans and TransLucent team member.
“Stunningly powerful. This film kicks like a mule. It should be the most important film people see this year “  –  Sukey Venables Fisher, Bafta-winning writer and producer and co-founder of London Trans+ Pride
