On the 23rd of December, a new Gender Critical group with the handle @LegallyMale appeared on Twitter. Their bio read:
“Representing the interests of women who are not trans identified but are considering making use of the Scottish GRA to become legally male”.
Wow!
Just why would a woman, who is not trans, want to become a man?
Clearly, Legally Male is upset because a law permitting self-determination of legal gender has been passed in a historic vote in Scotland. Given all the misinformation concerning this bill, they are not alone. The right-wing media outlets have been stoking fear for years now, invariably failing to report that around 18 countries and states, with an estimated population of 350 million, have laws similar to that passed in Scotland. In fact, within hours of Scotland’s new law, Spain did precisely the same!
But regarding the Legally Male Twitter account, I wonder if they realise what they are doing?
Legal gender recognition is a serious business, and making false statements has consequences. I trust any gender critical woman who applies for a Gender Recognition Certificate is prepared to live as a man for the rest of her life?
All those female clothes in their wardrobes will hopefully be given to Oxfam. The perfume? How about the lady next door?
Oh, and don’t forget to order those binders, ladies, because it will take years to get your boobs cut off via the NHS!
Ah, but I forgot you don’t have gender dysphoria, do you? You haven’t suffered like trans people, the fact that we were born the wrong sex.
You haven’t suffered like we have the years, sometimes decades, of feeling desperation …wrongness, ….pain ….jealousy …fear… loathing…sadness…. disgust… homelessness, ….hopelessness …self-hate… drowning.
Legally Male have been formed for just one reason – a gender critical stunt!
We quickly tweeted Legally Male about the legal consequences of making false declarations on government legal documents, pointing out that perjury can result in prosecution and, if found guilty, can result in penalties of two years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.
At that point, Legally Male seemed to “take the hump” and then restricted their Twitter account – shame that.
And if you feel this blog is flippant, then yes, possibly it is, but misinformation should be called out, whatever time of year.
Happy Christmas!
