The news cycle is absolutely frantic at the moment, with the situation over the Russian invasion of the Ukraine dominating coverage.
So don’t be surprised if you missed the important announcement that popped out from the Scottish Human Rights Commission on Thursday 24th Feb in between that and Fair Play For Women being refused a legal appeal for their bigoted attempt to get trans people to misgender ourselves on the Scottish Census.
In short, the Scottish equivalent of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), released a statement addressing the EHRC’s recent attempt to involve themselves in devolved legislative matters in Scotland.
It’s very politely worded, institution speak for a very clear sentiment:
‘Clear off and mind your own business’
It highlights two clear failings of the EHRC (and we all know failure is a running theme at the EHRC at the moment), namely :
And it does so alongside a scathing commentary and demands to meet to ‘clarify the working relationship between the two bodies’.
And if that wasn’t enough –Â Shona Robison, the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government also wrote directly to the Chair of the EHRC on the 21s February 2022.
It’s long and quite scathing for official-speak, but the tone and content is clear, essentially boiling down to ‘What the hell are you talking about?’
It’s yet another blow for the EHRC, who seem to think that the rules that apply to everyone else, don’t apply to them – But to the SHRC and the Scottish Government we say ‘Thank You’ and ‘Well Done’ from allies south of the border.
