The Daily Mail – “The worst kind of tabloid”.
Not my words but the words of George Clooney no less – and of course, he is not the only person to have a gripe with the newspaper that also appears to love hating trans folk.
The Daily Mail, with its sister publications the Mail on Sunday and Mail Online, have a horrific record of complaints presented to the Independent Press Standards Organisation. The Daily Mail group has succeeded in topping the league table for the ‘most complained about newspaper’ for the last four years reports the website Tabloid Corrections.
If I owned the Daily Mail, I would be ashamed.
In regards to trans affairs, I tend to pick up on the Mail Online most with three trans-related stories between the 29th of June and the 6th of July. That averages about a story every other day, the links are below.
Journalists, like estate agents and insurance salespeople, do not have the best of reputations. And while that is undoubtedly unfair on the many decent folks who do work in these industries – I can’t imagine many journalists are proudly working for the Daily Mail group.
As for me, a member of the public, I most certainly will not buy their rag, and I would urge all decent people to do likewise.
Over the years many people have sued or are suing The Daily Mail. The list includes Meghan Markel, Alan Sugar, Diana Rigg, Elton John and that transphobe author woman…..now what is her name? Ahh – J K Rowling.
It is effortless to sue a newspaper if you have the money – especially when you have billions as in the case of JKR
The saying goes:- “For the rich & famous there is no such thing as bad publicity”, and when JKR says anything remotely transphobic, that gets a Daily Mail headline. The click and pay strategy equates to more money rolling in.
JKR promotes “free speech”, but when some journalist goes that bit too far as in JKR’s case, she had the means to sue the Daily Mail.
In short, she wants it both ways.
Money buy’s “justice”.
Not like us trans folk, who can be treated like something you trod in and sticks to the sole of a shoe.
I would argue that both the Daily Mail and JKR are well aware that trans hate makes good headlines and makes money.
Money gives both the Daily Mail & JKR “the right” to say hurtful things about trans people on a very public stage… without any fear of financial repercussion.
JKR will allege she does it to defend women’s and children’s rights, not that I am aware if she has asked all women (or our kids) if they want her type of help.
I doubt very much though if trans kids want her help – they will view her with very different eyes.
It is also very noticeable that a massive number of women (and men) disassociate themselves with her and the Daily Mail’s views.
The Daily Mail will claim their trans “story’s” is in the public interest – not in the interest of trans folk though – we are expendable.
They don’t wipe up the blood of those who commit suicide because of the pressures of being trans or feel the pain of the families left behind.
Wikipedia reports this about The Daily Mail:
“The paper is owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust.[6] Jonathan Harmsworth, 4th Viscount Rothermere, a great-grandson of one of the original co-founders, is the current chairman and controlling shareholder of the Daily Mail and General Trust”.
The Rothermere’s have in fact had an interest in the Daily Mail for many generations and Wikipedia says this about their “illustrious history”:
Lord Rothermere was a friend of Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler, and directed the Mail’s editorial stance towards them in the early 1930s.[41][42] Rothermere’s 1933 leader “Youth Triumphant” praised the new Nazi regime’s accomplishments, and was subsequently used as propaganda by them.[43] In it, Rothermere predicted that “The minor misdeeds of individual Nazis would be submerged by the immense benefits the new regime is already bestowing upon Germany”.
“Rothermere and the Mail were also editorially sympathetic to Oswald Mosley and the British Union of Fascists.[45] Rothermere wrote an article titled “Hurrah for the Blackshirts” published in the Daily Mail on 15 January 1934, praising Mosley for his “sound, common-sense, Conservative doctrine”,[46] and pointing out that: “Young men may join the British Union of Fascists by writing to the Headquarters, King’s Road, Chelsea, London.”
After reading this, I started to think.
I looked back at the very first Editorial I wrote for my website entitled “Male Cleaner in Attendance”.
Here I pointed out how the Nazi’s created fear and mistrust of selected groups of people. The same philosophy as the gender-critical.
I then thought did I want to be mega-rich like JKR or the owners of the Daily Mail group and speak how they speak.
And the answer was immediate.
I will stay poor and trans, please.
