Summary
Sex Matters Survey by YouGov: Translucent condemn the YouGov Sex Matters survey and highlight legal action against EHRC amidst media misinformation and discuss trans rights discrimination and public support.
Sex Matters Survey by YouGov
TransLucent is aware of the survey undertaken by YouGov on behalf of the group Sex Matters.
We condemn the actions of both Sex Matters and YouGov, which have promoted the ‘othering’ of the most persecuted demographic in British society today.
Unfortunately, the poll was conducted amid a wave of misinformation, particularly from our national human rights body (EHRC), politicians, and the media. This renders it irrelevant in the context of truth and justice.
TransLucent and the Good Law Project (GLP) have taken legal action against the EHRC, which has failed in its legal duty to promote equality and inclusion. We are specifically concerned about the public statements of the EHRC Chair, Baroness Kishwer Falkner, and EHRC Commissioner Akua Reindorf, both of whom hold gender-critical views.
With the exception of a few media outlets that do not propagate the culture war against the trans community, the legal action by TransLucent and GLP has not been reported, and the public is simply not aware of the complexity of the debate, which is likely to be resolved by the European Court of Human Rights.
The Supreme Court judgment made it clear that the discussion about the human rights of transgender people should not be viewed as a ‘win’ for any ‘side’. Trans people, as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act, should not face unfair discrimination. Employers and service providers who discriminate unfairly are at a high risk of litigation.
The British public, known for its tolerant ‘live and let live’ views, plays a crucial role in supporting the trans community. We are very pleased to see a wave of support continuing to emerge for the community we represent, largely thanks to the efforts of people on social media and other platforms.
