Summary
The allegation that gay people are being forced to identify as trans is a false narrative promoted by trans-hostile organisations. No evidence supports this claim - the LGB community is growing rapidly.
Transing the Gay Away – Debunked
There are a tiny number of trans-hostile organisations (some of whom claim to support gay people) who allege young gay people are being “transed.”
These organisations are often either hate groups or invariably associated with hate groups and are working to the gender-critical movement narrative, as outlined by Meg Kilgannon and her associates at the 2017 Values Voter Summit in the United States.
Called “Splitting the T from the LGB“, the practice is well documented, with Right-Wing Watch reporting “Lesbians in the group are concerned that “transing masculine girls is a form of lesbian eugenics.”
Office of National Statistics, published in January 2025, showed that the number of lesbian, gay and bisexual people is increasing dramatically, with the Guardian reporting that now one in ten young people identify as LGB. The Guardian also quoted Simon Blake (CEO of Stonewall) saying:
“Lesbian, gay and bisexual people are a growing part of UK society, with more LGB young people than ever before,” he said. “The more than one in 10 of 16-24 year-olds identifying as LGB will be a crucial part of our workplaces, politics and lives. They will have colleagues, friends and families who support them, and they will deserve – and demand – equal rights and opportunities.”
In the UK, “Transing the Gay Away” has been a key feature of the LGB Alliance. Wikipedia states that in December 2022:
“it was reported that LGB Alliance had office space at 55 Tufton Street, a building also occupied by several controversial right-wing groups promoting climate change denial and anti-immigration politics. The LGB Alliance denied having links to the groups, stating the office was chosen because it’s handy, flexible, and…it became available at the right time”.
They also report that the LGB Alliance has opposed the inclusion of transgender people in legislation banning conversion therapy.
Earlier in August 2022, the Global Project against Hate and Extremism released a report in which it classified LGB Alliance Ireland as a far-right anti-transgender hate group.
Clearly, sexual orientation and gender identity are entirely different, and it is hard to understand how gay people can be effectively forced to be trans any more than trans people can be forced to be gay.
The idea that gay people are being systematically pressured or coerced into identifying as transgender is not backed by credible research or data. Gender identity and sexual orientation are distinct aspects of a person’s identity. While some individuals may explore both their gender identity and sexual orientation, it’s crucial to understand that these experiences are deeply personal and varied.
The LGBT community encompasses many identities, and each person’s journey is unique. It’s essential to support and respect each individual’s self-identified experience. The notion that gay people are being “transed” oversimplifies and misrepresents the complexities of gender identity and sexual orientation.
It is also essential to rely on reputable sources when studying any aspect of being LGBT – however, “transing the gay away” has never happened, is not happening now, nor can it in the future. Meanwhile, this topic is raised by the trans hostile on the basis that if it is said often enough, society will start to believe it – it is a practice known as “Illusion of Truth“.
The last word goes to the Daily Mail (January 29th) with the headline:
“Four-fold rise in young people identifying as gay, lesbian or bisexual over last decade, new data shows.”
TransLucent welcomes all people to the LGBT community – unlike the trans-hostile organisations, we do not discriminate, and we are delighted that many people have the courage to come out and be their true selves.
