At the start of Trans Awareness Week, Mermaids promoted a week of awareness and visibility with the following statement:
“This year’s Trans Awareness Week (TAW) takes place 13-19 November, culminating in Trans Day of Remembrance on 20 November.
It is a time for reflection, a time for celebration, and a time for us to come together as a community to highlight the issues faced by trans, non-binary and gender diverse people.”
So what I want to do in this article is highlight all the media attention I was aware of that was given to Trans Awareness Week:
1) On Thursday 18th November, Iain Dale on LBC Radio invited two Trans Women, India Willoughby and Jane Fae to discuss the issues facing transgender people in the UK today, specifically to help highlight these issue during Trans Awareness Week. It was a wonderful programme (and please take note BBC) without the need to invite any ‘Gender Critical’ speakers to spread harmful beliefs or views in the guise of ‘balance’. You can hear this interview in full here:

And that was it.
That is all I am aware of. The BBC covered a couple of Trans related topics, but they were spreading anti-Trans views, so nothing to do with Trans Awareness Week!
So please let me know if any other time was given by any national media broadcaster at a time when trans people are so under attack and so in need of visibility and awareness! I’d be genuinely delighted if there was any.
Just so you are aware, if you do want to listen to the wonderful LBC interview by Iain Dale you do need to be quick as today is the last day it is available on catch-up.
How apt, on Trans Visibility Week, the only item I could find to help promote Trans visibility will itself disappear.
Trans Visibility?
More like Trans ‘Invisibility’.
This article says exactly how much visibility there truly is.
